Sound Designer
Freelance for C3 Festivals 2025
We are seeking a Sound Designer with experience working on first-draft devised work. You'll be responsible for creating sound design for two shows co-created and devised with our members aged 13 - 16.
C3 Festivals is Company Three’s annual sharing of first draft work in April. This year, we will present and share work from across all our projects. There will be at least six live theatre performances and some sharing of podcasts and short films.
Location: Islington, N5
Dates:
Attending rehearsals and Production Meetings: Mondays 14:00 - 20:00
Any two days that fit your schedule for March 2025.
Three full days (7 hours of work) before the production week to prep sound design.
Rehearsal week: 7 - 11 April 2024
Performance: 11 & 12 April 2024 (12 April, we will probably only need you half-day)
Duties:
Design and Development:
Attend rehearsals as the plays are being devised.
Collaborate with the director, facilitators, and other creative team members to develop a sound design that aligns with the show's vision and narrative.
Design of sound for the show: including sound effects, soundscapes, and any necessary audio elements that enhance the storytelling and audience engagement.
Sound Editing and Mixing:
Edit and mix audio tracks, ensuring high-quality sound production.
Balance sound levels and ensure clarity and consistency across all audio elements.
Technical Setup:
Set up and configure sound equipment, including microphones, speakers, and playback systems, with the help of the technician.
Conduct sound checks and troubleshoot any technical issues that arise during tech, dress run, and first show.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with the technical and design team to integrate sound design with lighting, set design, and other technical aspects of the production.
Attend rehearsals and production meetings to provide input and make adjustments as needed based on feedback.
Live Performance Support:
Be present for the dress run and first show of performances to manage and adjust the sound design.
Required skills and experience:
Proven experience working on first-draft or devised shows.
QLab Programming.
A co-creative approach to making and the ability to realise the requirements of the creative team.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Desired
Worked on projects with young people aged 11 - 19.
We may ask to carry out an Enhanced DBS on your behalf.
Fee:
£750.00x1 for full week in April.
£175.00x6 for coming to rehearsals, attending production meetings, and prepping sound before the weeks and the Sat 12 April.
Total: £1,800
